A recovery of the Italian real estate sector could be helped by a weaker euro. At the moment, the euro is trading lower against the dollar, the British pound and the Swiss franc, making real estate investments in Italy an interesting option for international investors.

Jacques Plas, head of Generali Real Estate, the real estate arm of Italian insurance company Generali, believes that during the second half of 2015, investments in the Italian real estate sector should peak up again, at least for commercial properties –that is to say all non-residential properties.

“This expectation is in line with what we have been witnessing in the past few months, where the majority of investments in Italian commercial properties have been made by foreign actors rather than by local ones,” he said.
